Poinsett Legacy

As a Mason, Joel R. Poinsett was Worshipful Master of two lodges--Recovery Lodge No. 31 in Greensville, SC; and Solomon's Lodge No. 1 in Charleton, SC. Not only did he achieve the distinguished title as Right Worshipful District Deputy Grand Master in Blue Lodge Masonry, he worked his way up to Deputy Grand Master of SC, and would have gone higher had he not become Secretary of War when appointed to the post by President Van Buren.
President Madison appointed Poinsett to several high federal government positions. As "Agent for Seaman and Commerce" and later as Consul General for Argentina, Poinsett travelled into southern South America (Chile, Argentina, and Peru). South American territories (under the leadership of Brother Simon Bolivar) were struggling to gain their independence from Spain. At one point, Spain had captured several American ships. In 1811, Poinsett took command of several Chilean ships and retook the American vessels.

Freemasonry - Ancient York Rite Grand Lodge

The symbolic degrees of Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and Master Mason, as conferred in the United States, are degrees of the York Rite. York Masonry is the oldest and best known of all Masonic Rites. It takes its name from York, England, where the earliest known record of Masonry exists, dating from about A.D. 923. Masonry´s first written record is centered around York, the seat of the Ancient York Grand Lodge. In 1813, this Grand Lodge merged with another group called the Modern Grand Lodge, to form the United Grand Lodge of England. This is the basis upon which our present system of Symbolic Lodge Masonry is built.

You, as a Master Mason, have received the first three degrees of the York Rite. Having begun your Masonic work in the York Rite, it is natural that you should want to continue with it.  According to Masonic legend, every man raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason received “substitute secrets”, as the “true secrets” were lost. It may prove a surprise to the average man, believing his work is completed, to be told that the secrets pertaining to the ceremony will not be given to him! This is unfortunate, but the veil is lifted in the degree of the Royal Arch, and in that degree only. Hence, no man actually becomes a Master Mason until he is exalted to that holy order.

York Rite Protocol

Chapter Small Banner

THE MOST EXCELLENT
GRAND CHAPTER ROYAL ARCH MASONS OF FLORIDA

Appendix "E"

Masonic Capitular Protocol

(APR 28, 2008)

This document was presented for adoption by the Most Excellent Grand Chapter R.A.M. of Florida April 28, 2008. The information contained therein should be protocol for all York Rite Companions and Sir Knights. (Numerous titles used for introductions is provided in this 34 page document).

To preclude the loss of Masonic Protocol as time unfolds, the MEGHP Daniel E. Dale and his Protocol Committee expressed the opinion that the wealth of knowledge and experience related to masonic protocol should be put in writing for use by current and newer members of the York Rite Bodies.

Protocol in York Rite is defined as the art and ractice of conducting local, state, and national meetings waith skill and taste (i.e., adroitness, kindness, finesse, distinction, courtesy and chivalry). Specifically, companions are reminded of The Digest of Masonic Law of Florida and the Holy Bible (Book) which rests on the altar while one of the York Rite Bodies is in session.

Basics For Joining Orlando York Rite

YORK RITE DEGREES & ORDERS

by Sam Tish, E.H.P.

Much of the information about York Rite Freemasonry seems to be quietly discussed. Details about our York Rite bodies tend to be the "big secret" in masonry. Masonic brothers in Blue Lodge know York Rite exists, but little basic information reaches those who might be interested.
Total cost for candidates to join the three bodies (CHAPTER, COUNCIL, and COMMANDERY) is: $180.
Annual dues are less than $65. Any one or all of the degrees/orders may be taken as a "fast class–usually 2 days" or slow class stretched out over 2 or more months.
Payments may be made in three increments: CHAPTER = $85; COUNCIL = $40; COMMANDERY = $55.
